Get to know the island
If you are not content to spend your vacation lounging around on the beach, you may want to get out and explore Barbados. There are many ways to see the island, whether you decide to take a guided tour or rent a vehicle and set out to explore on your own.
There are several rental vehicle agencies located throughout the island if you decide to sightsee on your own terms. Cars, jeeps, motorcycles and scooters can be rented by the day or week for a reasonable fee. If you do decide to travel on your own, be sure to pick up a reliable road map and don’t be afraid to ask about which routes are best to take around the island. You may also want to inquire about which attractions and points of interest are worthwhile visiting.
There are several tour companies operating in Barbados, and each offers a different view of the island. Do your research and decide which areas of the island you would most like to see before booking a tour. The main benefit of booking a guided tour of Barbados is that you can see areas of the island that you otherwise wouldn’t if you simply stuck to the main roads. Off-road tours allow you to explore protected rainforests and hidden bays. Adventurerland Tours allows you to feed sea turtles and explore rugged terrain.
You do not have to remain on land to see the best of what Barbados has to offer. Take a ride in a submarine or go on a snorkeling excursion to see what is happening beneath the surface of the turquoise waters. You can also charter a boat or sign up for a cruise to tour around the coastline.
Of course, there may be no better way to see the island than on your own two feet. Wander around some of Barbados’ most fascinating towns like Bridgetown, the nation’s capital. Visit some of the many historical landmarks or wander through shops and discover some of the many wonderful handcrafts. At the end of the day, find a table at a patio and enjoy a local delicacy while taking in the beautiful scenery around you.
